Thoughts on sharing
Well ive kept quiet on this for awhile, ceppt a few opinions here and there. dA is such a diverse community that any new feature may not fit in with all. That being said you are not going to please everyone either. Yes these share tools will be great for some, even most, people here that wish to get maximum exposure. But you have to realize some people do not want this exposure for what ever reason. Some have joined dA because it was a tight community of like minded artist and they thought they were share just with this community, now being forced to share with others they hadn't intended to. In this aspect I do feel it would have been so simple to include an opt out (prefer opt in really) for those people before rolling out the feature.
Been thinking lately how these will effect me personally and I have mixed feelings. I have a facebook, myspace, and twitter. Each have there own crowds and group of friends with a little mixing. But essentially I use each for broadcasting certain types of work. The social sites I post my more mainstream work and use it to promote my portrait work, while dA I post more of my more over the line style of work. Like I said there is a little bit of mixing but for the most part I try keeping them separate and not sure I would like links to my dA work all over the other sites. I have lost portrait work before due to accidentally mixing work. On the other hand it may gain me more work on the other side of the fence commercially as I have had sold work because of dA. So it is a two edge sword for me and still thinking on it.
Bottom line is I think the whole thing could have been handled better, but can still work with minor changes. Sorry to see some leave but understand the whys. In the long run I hope that dA does get better because of it and not get diluted into another social site but rather remains a strong art site.
